Yeah, I remember a brief period of time working in a shelter when these guys became popular as pets (1990s some time) and what a shocker, they're hard to live with. People would be fuddling around their house, turn around and suddenly find these guys hurtling towards their faces. Apparently they will try to land on almost anything, and apparently they also have sharp claws. Ouch! Wild animals don't make good pets, duh.
OMGosh...that would be a shock to see one sailing toward your face, but they sure would know any better. Yeah....they're way better off left in the wild where they can sail around without hurting anyone.

Re Maya's comment, I cannot believe people would try and keep them as pets! That would be illegal in Australia as would exporting them for those purposes.
Thanks very much...that's what I thought it might be too. It's good to know they are protected in Australia. I hadn't even heard about them until recently, so it's always good to learn something new !!
